Date of birth: March 10, 1971
Birthplace: Terneuzen, the Netherlands, home of the Flying Dutchman, not really close to anywhere in Holland you may have heard of, hence the map below.
Physics Career: I first encountered physics at the "Petrus Hondius" College in Terneuzen. I obtained a degree in Engineering Physics at the Department of Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) in 1994.
During my studies there I spent five months at Uppsala University, which whetted my appetite for atomic physics. Soon after I went to the Spectroscopy Lab at University College Dublin, resulting in a Ph.D. (conferred in 1998). I took up a position as a postdoc at the Centre for Laser Plasma Research at Dublin City University in November 1997; in June 2000, I was appointed as Assistant Lecturer in the School of Physical Sciences, and since April 2002 I have been permanently employed there as a Lecturer.
I am active in two research areas: Atomic Physics and Physics Education.
