1000 Hot Tips on Nanorecording

Dr. Aidan Quinn, School of Physical Sciences, DCU

Scanning Probe Microscopes  (SPMÕs) can be used to measure a wide variety of surface properties down to the (sub)-nanometre scale.  They can also be used to manipulate tiny amounts of material, even individual atoms, offering the possibility of ultra-high density data storage through nanomanipulation. This talk will deal with the  past, present and future of SPM-based nanorecording.
